My youngest daughter, Nicole, turns 21 today.
Great! Now I'm officially old. Not really, but sometimes it feel like it. Even though I am only 20 years older than the "kid". And now she is official an "adult". Yeah right.....
Apparently Nicole celebrated by waiting until midnight on Thursday, then going out to a bar. I don't know why she told me this, as I really didn't need to know that. And then, she told me about her plans for this night as well. Some things a father just doesn't need to know. I will probably be up half the night worrying, even though she lives on campus at OU.
Nicole has a bad habit of calling at the latest of hours. Usually, nothing good can come from a phone call after midnight. And when the phone rings that late, I always think something bad has happened. Its Nicole, saying..."Hey Dad, how you doing?". Torn between feeling happy that nothing is wrong, and upset because I'm now awake and Nicole woke me, I typically mutter something about not calling this late any more. Coherency is not an attribute of mine right after being woken from a sound sleep.
I just hope Nicole doesn't call tonight... at least if she does call, call EARLY!
Happy Birthday, Nicole!
