It seems that things happen in groups. Especially bad things. And for me, that means I have been having lots of house repairs lately.
Just got my airconditioner replaced. Actually, the money spent on that was going to go for something else. I need a new roof. I had planned on getting that work done this month, but I thought the A/C was more important. But, I have this leak. Water is running down the side of one wall. Not too bad, but you can see the stain. I had to do something about it.
I got a roofer out to my house, and he agreed that I need a new roof after climbing around. But, he tells me, the leak is not in the roof. Oh no... Apparently there is wood rotting on the side of my chimney that faces the roof. So, I can't really see it, and didn't know it needed fixing. Lovely!
So, not only do I need a new roof, I need to replace many rotting boards on my chimney, plus a few other places I can't see. Fortunately, my roofer can all fix that other stuff too. For now he is going to fix me up enough to keep me through the winter, then by next Spring or Summer I can replace the roof, fix the wood, and who knows what else by then will need to be done.
One might think that my house is falling apart, but its really not. My father told me to sell this house because of all the repairs I have been making. Last Summer was a new carport roof, replacement of lots of wood, and painting. This Summer had me replacing the carpet and getting new storm doors. And then there is the heat/air unit and now the main roof. If I keep this up, I will soon have a new house!
However, because of certain circumstances (to put it nicely) the first 7 years in the house saw virtually no repair work being done. A long story...one not for the web.
I guess I shouldn't complain, considering how long I have lived here. All houses need repairs, mine included. Sometimes I feel like I wasn't meant to own a house.... maybe I was a born renter. Just pay the rent and go on....
